10 Great Crochet Patterns Using Scheepjes Yarn

Some here in the US might be wondering – Scheepjes yarn?  I’ve never seen that at Michael’s or Joann Crafts.  Since I started my journey of learning this hobby and trolling the internet for patterns I found many very talented designers in Europe who used Scheepjes yarn for their projects.  I found a pattern for this really colorful and fun scarf so I ordered my first skeins of yarn to complete that project.  That was all it took.  I was “hooked” on their yarn (I swear, no pun intended there).  The downside is I had to order the yarn from a county in Europe and wait a few weeks to receive it.  Who wants that?  Not me – when I get jazzed about a project I want to get working on it right away, hence how Autumn & Embers was born.  Sharing what I know about this hobby and committed to becoming the largest distributor of Scheepjes yarn in the US.

My yarn shop is filled with this gorgeous yarn so you can have easy access to getting it when you want to create something you will cherish a lifetime.  To give you an idea of some of the many projects I have found using these products I wanted to give you 10 great patterns using various yarns that Scheepjes produces.

We will start with my favorite because it is a pattern I have personally made.  I never wear it that I don’t get dozens of compliments.  It is the Lost In Time Shawl by Johanna Lindahl.  I have seen this pattern done in so many beautiful colors however my favorite are the original ones she chose.  For this pattern she used Scheepjes Catona yarn.  It is a 100% cotton yarn that comes in over 100 colors so the possibilities are endless for any project you are going to create.

Need something cozy for this time of year?  The Happy Little Tree blanket designed by Rachele with Cypress Textiles was created using both the River Washed and Stoned Washed Color Packs.   The great thing about these packs is the array of colors you have to work with, without having the buy full skeins of every color-way.  I look at the packs and see so many possibilities.  (Currently, I don’t carry these in the online store however if you want them please send me an email through the Contact Us form and I will work with you to place a special order from Scheepjes).

If you love the idea of using all those colors but want something more modern in style consider the Riverstone Blanket by Jellina Creations.  Another fabulous use of all these beautiful colors.  Did I mention how soft and durable this yarn is? This is so important!  Am I right?  A lot of time and effort goes into any handmade piece and you need quality yarn that will withstand the use of the finished piece. Especially in a blanket.

Another pattern I am currently in the process of making is the Trio Blanket by The Felted Button.  This one has been insanely popular.  This blanket is made using the Scheepjes Whirl yarn.  Their Whirl yarn is sold in cakes that are just over 1,000 meters each.  It is a variegated yarn with 6 different colors in each cake.  What gives this blanket the great effect it has is you use three different Whirls and alternate each row with the yarn from a different cake so you end up with 18 different colors fading in and out from end to end.  The color combinations are endless.    And because of the size of each Whirl cake there are many one cake project you can make like baby blankets and shawls.

In fact here is one of those projects!  When I first say the Whirl yarn I knew I wanted to make something I could wear using that yarn and Lilla Björn Crochet gives us a perfect one cake pattern called the Mandala Cardigan.  I made this cardigan using the Jumpin’ Jaffa Pop color way (see photo in gallery) and wear it all the time in spring and summer.  This would be a great project for someone who has mastered a few beginners scarves and wants to try a little larger project.

Want some happy feet?  Try making the Lace Crochet Socks designed by 50 Shades of 4 Ply with Stone Washed yarn.  These simply look so pretty for socks.  I can just see them poking out from the other end of one of these blankets while laying on the couch relaxing over the weekend.

Need gift ideas for the upcoming holidays?  The Timber Cowl and Wristies designed by New Leaf Designs using the Our Tribe yarn is a sure bet for any woman on your list.  This yarn comes in beautiful color ways and is variegated which is my favorite.  Less ends to weave in and have multiple colors.  This yarn will be coming in my next shipment.

Lilla Björn Crochet also gives us The River’s Walk Shawl where she used both the River Washed and Stone Washed yarns.  This is a go to shawl to use throughout the seasons.  I keep one at my desk all year long so I have something to keep me warm when I need it.  Other times I wear it for pure style and someone always comments on it.  With the number of of color choices in both of these yarns your possibilities are endless.

Now Miss Neriss has two really cute and creative ideas for the upcoming holiday season.  The Christmas Gnomes made with Catona yarn and The Christmas Wreath using Stone Washed yarn.  Those little gnomes and darling and either project would make great gift ideas/hostess gifts.  I thought they were really creative.

I hope this post inspires you to think of all the great things you can doing using Scheepjes yarn.  Right now as I am building out inventory I may not have everything in stock but would love to hear from you on what you would like to try and happy to add your needs to my next order from the Netherlands.

All the best!!!

Love – Taylor
